While intrinsic ageing is a natural process we cannot control, extrinsic factors such as sun exposure, pollution, smoking, stress, and excess sugar can significantly accelerate collagen loss and it accounts for 80% of our skin ageing.
When collagen levels drop, the skin can appear thinner, less firm, and more prone to fine lines, wrinkles, enlarged pores, and uneven texture.

The treatment takes approximately 30 minutes but we book you for an hour so that there is plenty time for the topical anaesthetic to work prior to treatment. Prior to the procedure, your skin will be cleansed and topical anaesthetic will be used to minimise discomfort during treatment. The SkinPen is applied to the skin and glides across the treatment areas. The depth of treatment is adjustable, so it is safe to use on the entire face, as well as neck and even hands. Even the most delicate area around the eyes and around the mouth can be treated with minimal discomfort.
Clients with active acne, eczema, psoriasis, open wounds, or any active skin infection in the treatment area should discuss SkinPen microneedling with their ORA doctor before booking. Recent use of isotretinoin (within the past 6 months) is a contraindication, as is a history of poor wound healing or keloid scarring. We recommend avoiding retinoids (vitamin A) and exfoliating acids for 5 days prior to microneedling, or 7 days if you have sensitive skin. It is also important to avoid intense sun exposure, tanning beds, and self-tanning products for 2 weeks before treatment. To reduce the risk of irritation, we advise against any other facial, skin, or aesthetic treatments (including brow treatments) in the 2 weeks prior to your SkinPen session. Your ORA doctor will provide a tailored pre-treatment protocol to ensure your skin is in the best condition for safe and effective results.
The procedure is vey comfortable, most patients rate the pain 1 out of 10!
SkinPen is very well tolerated but do keep in mind that your skin will be red and will feel tight, a little like a sunburn. For most people the redness subsides significantly within 24 hours. You won’t be able to apply any products including makeup for up to 48 hours. You may notice some swelling especially around the eye area. This can last for up to a few days. Your skin will feel tender for a day or two. You may experience some flaking that commences on day 3 and can last for up to a week.
Your skin will appear more radiant within two weeks of treatment but best results are seen six months after completion of course of treatment.
We recommend a course of 4-6 treatments with one treatment every 4-6 weeks.
The best results are seen within 3-6 months after the completion of the course of treatment. The reason for this is that it takes your body time to build collagen.
