Motherhood
Motherhood at ORA
Motherhood is one of the most profound transitions your body and skin will ever experience.
From pregnancy through breastfeeding and into life beyond, your skin adapts continuously to shifting hormones, changing priorities, and interrupted rest. At ORA, we believe this chapter deserves just as much care and consideration as any other milestone.
Postpartum Skin Recovery
During pregnancy, rising oestrogen can initially enhance glow and vascularity, but it also increases the risk of pigmentation, sensitivity, and redness. Collagen production begins to fluctuate, while increased demands on hydration and barrier function can leave skin feeling drier and more reactive.
At ORA, we support mothers through every stage with treatments that are evidence based, pregnancy safe where appropriate, and always tailored to you.
The period before pregnancy is often filled with anticipation, uncertainty and, for many, complex fertility journeys including IVF or recovery after miscarriage. At ORA, we recognise that skin health during this time is deeply connected to overall wellbeing, stress levels and hormonal fluctuation. Our approach is grounded in support, clarity and best medical practice.
In the pre pregnancy phase, the full treatment menu is available provided you are confident that you are not pregnant at the time of treatment.
In line with best practice, we do not perform injectables or energy based devices on pregnant patients. For those undergoing IVF, we are happy to carry out treatments up until embryo transfer. For natural conception, treatments may be performed provided pregnancy has been confidently excluded.
Open communication is essential. If there is any uncertainty around pregnancy status, this must be discussed in advance of treatment so that we can guide you safely and appropriately.
We generally do not recommend embarking on multi session treatment courses while actively trying to conceive. Instead, the focus should be on skin supportive treatments that deliver meaningful results in a single visit, without creating unnecessary inflammation or prolonged recovery. Treatments such as the ORA Glow Facial, BYONIK, Skinova, Sofwave and MOXI are well suited to this phase, supporting hydration, circulation, collagen signalling and overall skin resilience.
For those navigating miscarriage or fertility challenges, skin can often become reactive, dull or dehydrated under the weight of hormonal shifts and emotional stress. Our priority is always to support barrier health, calm inflammation and restore balance, creating skin that feels stronger and more comfortable before progressing to more intensive interventions.
At ORA, we take a careful, individualised approach. By aligning skin care with where you are in your journey, we ensure that treatments are not only effective, but appropriate, respectful and supportive at every stage.
If you are unsure, consider a consultation. We are delighted to guide you through this stage of life.
During pregnancy, rising oestrogen can initially enhance glow and vascularity, but it also increases the risk of pigmentation, sensitivity, and redness. Collagen production begins to fluctuate, while increased demands on hydration and barrier function can leave skin feeling drier and more reactive.
During pregnancy, our focus is on strengthening the skin barrier, improving hydration, calming inflammation, and supporting skin function through gentle, non invasive technologies and medical grade skincare.
Our pregnancy menu is designed to deliver visible, meaningful results at a time when many treatments are off limits. Thoughtfully selected, clinically effective and deeply restorative, our OhMama! BYONIK Facial and Skinova Water Drop Facial are tailored to support hydration, barrier strength and skin vitality throughout pregnancy.
Suitable treatments:
- OhMama! BYONIK Facial
- Skinova Water Drop Facial
For breastfeeding mothers, we do not recommend injectables or energy based laser treatments. Instead, we advocate for a gradual and considered return to skin optimisation, beginning with restoring barrier function, hydration and skin vitality before progressing to more active collagen stimulating treatments once breastfeeding has concluded.
In the early postnatal period, our focus remains firmly on skin health. Treatments such as the OhMama! BYONIK Facial and the Skinova Water Drop Facial are ideally suited to this stage, supporting cellular energy, microcirculation and deep hydration without systemic exposure or unnecessary inflammation.
At ORA, we prioritise a slow, layered return to treatment. By first optimising hydration, barrier integrity and skin function, we create the ideal foundation for safe and effective collagen boosting treatments at the appropriate time.
Suitable treatments:
- OhMama! BYONIK Facial
- Skinova Water Drop Facial
Suitability determined on a case by case basis:
- Skinpen microneedling
Not suitable:
- Injectables including wrinkle relaxer
- Lasers including BBL
- Sofwave
In the postpartum period when you are not breastfeeding, the full aesthetic treatment menu is available to you.
At this stage, hormonal levels begin to stabilise, but the skin often bears the cumulative impact of pregnancy, delivery, sleep disruption and prolonged physiological stress. Reduced collagen density, impaired elasticity, dehydration and background inflammation are common, even in women who previously had resilient skin.
Injectable treatments including wrinkle relaxers, Profhilo, polynucleotides and biostimulatory collagen treatments such as Julaine can be safely introduced in the early postpartum phase. Many of our new mums start their postpartum skin journey with a sprinkle of wrinkle relaxers for an instant refresh. This is a safe, quick and effective way to feel more like yourself again.
Energy based devices, including BBL and other light and laser technologies, may also be incorporated to address pigmentation, redness, laxity and overall skin quality.
However, do remember that access to a full treatment menu does not always mean it is the optimal place to begin.
Postpartum skin is frequently barrier compromised and inflammation prone. When this is not addressed first, results from high-tech devices may be less predictable, less durable and more reactive than expected.
At ORA, we aim to take a layered, skin first approach. The initial focus is always on calming inflammation, restoring hydration and strengthening the skin barrier. This creates the physiological conditions required for skin to respond optimally to collagen stimulation and regenerative treatments.
Once skin health is stabilised, advanced treatments can be layered strategically to rebuild density, improve tone and restore luminosity in a way that feels natural, effective and long lasting.
For us, postpartum is not about rushing to correct change. It is about supporting recovery, respecting the biology of skin after pregnancy and using the right tools in the right order to achieve the best possible outcomes.
