What does the treatment involve?

Muscle relaxers (the same product used in anti-wrinkle injections) are used to target the large chewing muscles on either side of the face. This treatment effectively minimises bruxism (tooth grinding) and slims the face. Face slimming effects are seen at any time between 2 to 8 weeks after treatment. Treatment will need to be repeated to maintain and achieve optimal results.

How long does the treatment last?

Often a repeat treatment will need to be performed 4 weeks after the initial treatment. This repeat treatment is included in the initial cost. Results typically last 6 months. Over time as the muscle atrophies (shrinks), clients tend to get longer periods between treatments. The results improve significantly over the first year of treatment.

Is there any downtime?

There is no downtime and you can resume normal activities straight away. The aftercare is the same as that listed for wrinkle relaxers above.

What are dermal fillers?

At ORA we use Hyaluronic Acid dermal fillers. These temporary dermal fillers help to restore youthful volume and smooth out lines and wrinkles.

What are the benefits?

Dermal fillers are an excellent treatment for volume loss and deep lines. Fillers are particularly effective for restoring lost volume in our cheeks, reducing the appearance of the lines between the nose and the mouth and the marionettes. They can also be used very effectively to sculpt cheekbones, reshape the chin and volumise the lips.

How do dermal fillers work?

Hyaluronic Acid occurs naturally in the body, keeping our skin hydrated. However, as we age our bodies produce less of it, contributing to the loss of volume from our face which causes our skin to sag and face to hollow out. Dermal fillers are injected to replace the lost hyaluronic acid, giving our skin more support and restoring our ‘plump’ youthful complexion. Over time the fillers are reabsorbed safely into the body.

What fillers do you use at ORA?

At ORA we use premium hyaluronic acid based dermal fillers that have long established clinical histories. Our favourite products are Juvederm and Belotero.

How long do fillers last?

The timeframe varies. The range is from 9 - 24 months depending on product, area treated and lifestyle factors. We will discuss the likely longevity at your consultation.

  • Pregnant or trying to get pregnant/ breast feeding

I am prone to coldsores, is that relevant to my treatment?

If you have had more than 2 outbreaks of coldsores in a year please let us know this during your cosultation or feel free to contact us in advance of your appointment. You will need to take some medication for a few days ahead of your treatment to limit the chance of a post treatment outbreak which can slow healing and disrupt the placement of product. If you think this applies to you please email us at least 1 week in advance of your treatment: hello@oraskinclinic.ie

What are the risks?

Filler treatments are safe but not risk free. We only use the highest grade products and attends numerous training courses and masterclasses to keep abreast of the latest developments and to ensure patients are receiving a truly bespoke and safe service however the following are some recognised side effects of filler treatment. Common side effects:

  • Slight discomfort during injection. The fillers used at ORA are relatively painless to inject due to the addition of lidocaine (a numbing agent). For extra patient comfort a numbing cream is also applied to the area prior to injection, and an ice pack is may also be applied after injection.
  • Localised swelling, redness, tenderness
  • Bruising. In order to minimise the risk of bruising we advise taking Arnica herbal remedy tablets for 1 week prior to treatment and also to avoid alcohol and fish oils for 5 days prior to injection.
The literature tells us that on rare occasions there can be more serious side effects to filler treatment. These can occur immediately or at a later date.
  • Infection
  • Inflammation
  • Skin discoloration
  • Occlusion (blockage) of vessel. Your face and in particular your lips are full of tiny vessels and despite excellent knowledge and training it is always a small risk when having fillers, that the product can interfere with one of these vessels. If this does were to occur the product would need to be dissolved. In line with best practice we maintain a full kit for the purposes of dissolving filler if necessary.
You will be given detailed information in writing ahead of your procedure furtehr explainign the treatment. Please read through it carefully and ask us any questions. We are always more than happy to help you make an informed decision about treatment.

What is a peel?

A chemical peels a treatment used to improve skin texture and tone. An acid is applied to the skin to lower the pH, which loosens the connections between dead skin cells, inducing exfoliation and stimulation of new cell growth. This process causes superficial layers of dead skin to peel off, revealing a smoother and more radiant complexion. Chemical peels can also stimulate collagen. We offer light to medium depth peels known for their excellent results and safety profile. We believe in repeated treatments for progressive and gradual results and to avoid the side effects associated with some deeper peels.

How do I know which peel is best for me?

The best way is to have a consultation with one of our experts. Generally most people are suitable for a radiance peel and we recommend this as a good starting point on your skin rejuvenation journey.

How long does a peel take?

Peels take approximately 30 minutes.

Is there any downtime?

There is minimal downtime. Your skin will glow immediately after the peel. By day 3 clients may experience some shedding and flaking of the dead surface cells. This is a normal part of the process. We invite all clients to return between day 3-5 for a quick complimentary exfoliation to speed up the process of revealing healthier, brighter skin.

What can I expect during the treatment?

We first carry out a deep cleanse to ensure the treatment area is completely clean and oil-free, after which we apply the chemical peel and leave it to work on the skin. Depending on the peel it may be accompanied by a nourishing mask. During treatment, patients may experience some tingling or heat in the skin. This is normal and resolves within a few minutes. Your treatment is concluded with application of a brightening agent, hydrator and SPF.

How often should I have a peel?

We recommend that clients seeking age prevention or to minimise the appearance of lines, wrinkles have peels every 4-6 weeks. Peels used in the treatment off acne should be carried out every 2 weeks in the initial phase of treatment.

How long does the treatment last?

Depending on the individual response to the injections, the treatment may last anywhere between 6 to 12 months. You will start to notice a reduction in sweating within two weeks of treatment with the maximal result after about 4 weeks. Repeated treatments may be necessary for optimal results.

What is Hyperhidrosis treatment?

Hyperhidrosis is treated with several tiny injections of Botulinum toxin into the affected areas. This simple but effective treatment reduces sweating by around 90%.

How does Botulinum Toxin A work for Hyperhidrosis?

Botulinum Toxin A works by interrupting the signals that instruct the sweat glands to produce sweat. In doing so, it dramatically reduces sweating, even in the heat or in stressful situations.

What happens after my treatment?

There is no downtime and people can return to their normal activities after the treatment. It is advised to avoid any strenuous or heat inducing activities immediately after and to avoid the use of topical antiperspirant products for 24 hours.

Does it hurt?

No. This is a relatively pain-free treatment.
